If you have dark spots or blotches on your skin, you may have hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation can be the result of damage to your skin from an injury, too much sun, or hormones in your body causing freckling, brown spots and age spots as well as melasma. Lustra uses 4% hydroquinone to treat and gradually fade skin discolorations. The sun can cause skin discolorations and freckles to darken so limit exposure to sunlight and wear a high spf sunblock.

LUSTRA or LUSTRA-AF should be applied to the affected areas twice daily, morning and before bedtime, or as directed by a physician. During and after the use of LUSTRA sun exposure should be limited, and a sunscreen agent or sun-protective clothing should be used to cover the treated areas, to prevent repigmentation. There is no recommended dosage for pediatric patients under 12 years of age except under the advice and supervision of a physician.
LUSTRA and LUSTRA-AF are indicated for the gradual treatment of ultraviolet induced dyschromia and discoloration resulting from the use of oral contraceptives, pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy, or skin trauma.
LUSTRA and LUSTRA-AF are contraindicated in any patient that has a prior history of hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to hydroquinone or any of the other ingredients. The safety of topical hydroqinone use during pregnancy or on children (12 years and under) has not been established.
Hydroquinone is a depigmenting agent which may produce unwanted cosmetic effects if not used as directed. The physician should be familiar with the contents of this insert before prescribing or dispensing this medication. Test for skin sensitivity before using LUSTRA or LUSTRA-AF by applying a small amount to an unbroken patch of skin and check within 24 hours. Minor redness is not a contraindication, but where there is itching, vesicle formation,
